“Wonder Woman 2,” Starring Gal Gadot, To Be Released November 2019 … Without Brett Ratner

Wonder Woman 2, the eagerly awaited sequel to Patty Jenkins’ blockbuster Wonder Woman, has a new and earlier release date.  Warner Brothers has announced Wonder Woman 2 is “going to be released a month and half earlier than originally announced, with a new date set for November 1, 2019,”  according to Deadline and other sources. The film’s original release date was December 13, 2019.

Hollywood, like Washington, DC, is a town that thrives on rumors. Despite Warner Brothers’ denials, it had been widely reported that Gal Gadot refused to be in Wonder Woman 2 if accused sexual harasser Brett Ratner was involved with the film.  Gadot told Savannah Guthrie on the Today show that Ratner’s involvement with Warner Bros. had already ended prior to the media reports that she would leave the picture if he were attached to it.

Warner Brothers has confirmed the following:

  1. Wonder Woman 2 will be released November 1, 2019, six weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
  2. Patty Jenkins will be the director.
  3. Gal Gadot will be playing Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince.
  4. Neither Brett Ratner nor his financing company RatPac-Dune Entertainment will be involved with Wonder Woman 2 in any way, shape, or form.

RatPac-Dune Entertainment and Warner Brothers will continue working together until their contract expires in March of 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  However, in light of the allegations of sexual misconduct, Warner Bros. and Ratner are parting ways.  Warner Brothers says they are “aware of the allegations in the LA Times and are reviewing the situation.”  Ratner has denied the accusations against him.

“In light of the allegations being made, I am choosing to personally step away from all Warner Bros.-related activities.  I don’t want to have any possible negative impact to the studio until these personal issues are resolved.”

With the complaints about how Amazons are dressed and regarded in Justice League, which is already receiving poor reviews, many fans are looking forward to Wonder Woman 2 to (excuse the pun) do justice to the Justice League’s first female member.  Screencrush said “Gal Gadot remains a sturdy paragon of virtue as Wonder Woman, but those who appreciated how her film refused to treat her like a sexual object probably won’t be too keen on the way Snyder and Whedon repeatedly introduce her in scenes butt or cleavage first.”

Justice League opens in theaters November 17, 2017.  Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters November 1, 2019.  Share your opinion of both movies with us in the comments section below.
