1st Look: “Pacific Rim: Uprising” 1st Trailer

Kaiju movies aren’t meant to be taken seriously. They’re meant to be fun, and exciting, and suspenseful in places if they can manage it. The new trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising suggests that the second in the Pacific Rim series delivers on all counts.

Yes, that’s John Boyega! It also stars Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Adria Arjona and Jing Tian. Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman return to reprise their roles from the original film.

Of course it’s a kaiju movie, and you can’t do a kaiju movie without kaiju, so the beasts from the interdimensional rift at the bottom of the ocean are obviously back. It’s humans versus the kaiju, of course, but as a new added twist, it’s also humans versus humans. Can they stop fighting themselves long enough to send the giant skyscraper sized monsters from another reality back where they came from? And if they can, for how long?

Universal Pictures will be releasing Pacific Rim: Uprising on March 23, 2018, but as you can see, the film is already very far along. Buckle up. It’s going to be a wild ride.
