Science Fiction / Fantasy

Happy Birthday, Claudia Christian! She’s 52.

Claudia Christian

Claudia Christian is one of the most versatile, talented and beautiful actresses in the science fiction genre, and today this remarkable woman is 52 years old. She’s probably best known for her role as Susan Ivanova on Babylon 5, but her career in television began in 1984.

She was born as Claudia Ann Coghlan on August 10, 1965 in Glendale, California, USA. Her family moved to Connecticut. It was there that Claudia began her interest in acting, and when her family returned to California, she decided to start a career as an actress in earnest.

It wasn’t all champagne and limousines to start with. Her first roles were walk-on roles in shows like Dallas and T.J. Hooker.  In the following years, she alternated between television roles and movies such as The Hidden (1987), Clean and Sober (1988), and Never on Tuesday (1988).

It wasn’t until 1994, that Claudia landed the role of Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5. She worked that role for four years.

Since then, she’s been acting and directing television, but has also taken a liking to voice acting. She was the sultry, dangerous Helga in Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). Her voice has graced dozens of video games, including Skyrim, Starcraft II, and recent campaigns in World of Warcraft, and she has new films upcoming listed on IMDB as well, The Pipeline, Dirty Dead Con Menand Runestone.

Claudia Christian has written two autobiographies: My Life With Freaks and Geeks, and Babylon Confidential: A Memoir of Love, Sex, and Addiction, and a science fiction novel Wolf’s Empire: Gladiator with co-author Morgan Grant Buchanan.

She’s also a crusader for a cure for alcoholism. It’s called the Sinclair Method, and it’s based on a relatively inexpensive drug called Naltrexone (also called Nalmefene). It boasts a 78% success rate, as contrasted to 5-15% for other methods. She’s the narrator of a documentary about it called One Little PillHer work getting the news of this treatment to those who need it has literally saved lives.

Happy birthday, Claudia. We’re so glad you’re here.
