Callum Turner Cast as Newt Scarmander’s Brother in “Fantastic Beasts 2”

Callum Turner will portray WWI hero Theseus Scarmander in FANTASTIC BEASTS 2.

Callum Turner has been cast as Newt Scarmander’s brother in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, Variety announced. Turner, best known for playing Tiger in the movie Green Room, will play the part of Auror Theseus Scarmander. Eddie Redmayne will be reprising his role as magizoologist Newt Scarmander.

Callum Turner in Queen and Country

Little is known of Theseus Scarmander. According to the Harry Potter Wiki, he is the older brother of Newt Scarmander. However, Callum Turner is only 27 years old while Redmayne is 35, so it’s not impossible which brother is the elder may be switched. Theseus Scarmander was mentioned in passing in the first movie. The fame of his deeds in World War I had crossed the Atlantic, and even American wizards had heard of him.

Callum Turner previously appeared with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in Victor Frankenstein, where Radcliffe starred as Igor. Turner was in the TV mini-series War and Peace with Jim Broadbent, who portrayed Professor Horace Slughorn in the sixth and eighth Harry Potter movies. Callum Turner played Nathan in Assassin’s Creed, the movie based on the popular videogame.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 is supposed to take “the story deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world.” The movie is set in Paris, in the dangerous days between the World Wars. As SCIFI.radio reported earlier, Jude Law will be playing Professor Albus Dumbledore. Johnny Depp will be returning as Gellert Grindelwald. Also returning for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will be director David Yates and scriptwriter J. K. Rowling.

Zoë Kravitz in Mad Max: Fury Road

Also confirmed is Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange. Leta appeared only as a photograph in the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. Although her exact spot on the Lestrange family tree is unknown, Leta will probably be an aunt or great-aunt of Rabastan and Rodolphus Lestrange. Zoë Kravitz has appeared in several science fiction and fantasy movies, including Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent, Allegiant, Insurgent, and X-Men: First Class.

“Leta Lestrange comes into the second movie. She’s quite complicated and damaged and confused and Newt is absolutely still in love with her, so she has a kind of power over him, and she, yeah, she’s a kind of tragic figure, so we will see a bit more of her in the second movie,” said director David Yates.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 is scheduled to be released November 18, 2018.
