Final “Wonder Woman” Trailer Gives Us Diana’s Origin

A lot of us may have had issues with Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but one thing we can agree on, seeing Gal Gadot make her first appearance as Wonder Woman during the climatic battle with Doomsday was one of the best scenes in the film.

While the wait for Wonder Woman’s solo film to make it’s debut in June continues, Warner Brothers have released the final trailer for the film, this one focusing on Diana’s origin. We see her as a young child (played by Emily Carey) given a tour of Themyscira, home of the Amazons, by her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen). Then, as a young adult, being trained in combat by her aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), but not being told her true destiny.

As many of us are familiar with Wonder Woman’s beginnings in the comics, she originally made her debut during World War II. The producers of the film made the decision to have the setting during World War I, in order to highlight Diana’s immortality, and the changes that she’s encountered over the years. Gal Gadot described the character as a young idealist. “She’s pure. Very different to the experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman that you’ve seen.”

Elena Anaya As Maru/Doctor Poison

Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff

While the trailer does not, thankfully, give a whole lot of spoilers for the film, we do know that at least one classic Wonder Woman villain who first debut in 1942 makes her appearance in this film, Maru aka Doctor Poison (Elena Anaya). As her name suggests, she specializes in chemistry, especially poison. Also in the cast of bad guys is General Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston), an ambitious German general.

While the DC Cinematic Universe has had a very shaky start, we’re hoping that Wonder Woman turns out as well as the trailers that have been released. As more comic book movies featuring strong female leads are coming in the years to come, it is only fitting that Wonder Woman leads the way.

Wonder Woman is directed by Patti Jenkins, and is written by Alan Heinberg, with the story by Alan Heinberg, Scott Snyder, and Jason Fuchs. It stars Gal Gadot as Diana/Wonder Woman, Chris Pines as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Elena Anaya as Maru/Doctor Poison, Danny Huston as General Erich Ludendorff, and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy. Wonder Woman as a character was created by William Moulton Marsten. In theaters June 2, 2017.
