[su_note note_color=”#113752″ radius=”17″][/su_note]We know, it’s unusual for a radio station to be a guest of honor, but that’s exactly what’s happening this coming weekend. SCIFI.radio‘s executive producer Susan Fox and station manager Gene Turnbow have been invited to Arisia for the 28th annual convening of Arisia, New England’s biggest and most diverse New England based convention, fan run or otherwise. We’ll be broadcasting from the convention, as well as recording more shows for later broadcast – and we’ll even be judges in the Costume Competition!

Arisia happens January 13 – 16 at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel.

Up first at 7 pm Friday night is the SCIFI.radio Acting Workshop, in which guests get to go through the harrowing experience of performing for radio, as they read roles for the pilot episode of SCIFI.radio’s new sci-fi radio series, Halfway Home: Adventures in the Asteroid Belt. Written expressly for SCIFI.radio, this will be a unique experience for audience and participants alike.

Come learn how science fiction radio is made, in the most fun environment possible, directly from the people who do it every day for listeners around the world!

Arisia, Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit, volunteer-run organization whose purpose is to promote science fiction and fantasy. Their most visible promotion, of course, is the annual Arisia convention. Arisia gives out grants to organizations that further Arisia’s purpose.

Arisia also sponsors a Student Art Contest and a Student Writing Contest. Both contests a free for high school students (including home schooled) to enter. There are cash prizes for the winners.

The name “Arisia” comes from E.E. “Doc” Smith’s Lensman series, often acknowledged as being the archetype for all modern space opera, as well as the inspiration for DC Comic’s Green Lanterns.

We’re honored to be part of the program for Arisia, and we’re looking forward to meeting everyone and making new friends at one of the nation’s most respected and venerated sci-fi conventions, and we’re going to be conducting a great many interviews and broadcasting directly from the convention.

Oh, and this is important: if you are a science fiction or fantasy writer, film maker or other creative and you would like to be interviewed on SCIFI.radio – or you would like to interview us for your own blog or podcast – please drop our production manager Cat Carter (CatCarter@kryptonradio) a line, and she’ll be happy to help you coordinate with us!

Watch this space for more news as it happens!
