It’s been pretty well publicized that DC Comics Creative Director Geoff Johns was put in charge of the DC comics movie universe last May. We had high hopes for the future of the DC Comics characters on the big screen when we heard this news. The Zack Snyder cruise ship appeared no longer headed for that iceberg looming in the darkness. We were hopeful that Zack Snyder’s dystopian vision for the future of DC Comics’ iconic characters in film was going to be upended, and it apparently has been.

Now we know how it was that Geoff Johns was able to affect so great a change so fast. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Warner Bros. made him their President of DC Entertainment and Chief Creative Officer at Warner Bros. Studios, reinforcing his role as director of DC Entertainment.  He now has direct, ultimate control over how all this goes down.

Diane Nelson is still President of DC Entertainment (the company), and Geoff still reports to Diane, since he’s still Chief Creative Officer at DC.

If you’re confused, you’re not alone. At this level, titles tend to blur together and overlap. Why this isn’t a conflict of interest problem is a mystery, but apparently what Johns is doing is so good for both companies that nobody really cares. Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee also still report directly to Diane, but it’s obvious that the scepter is now in Geoff Johns’ hands.

The Warner Bros. live action movies needed a strong spirit guiding them, like Marvel Studios has had with Joss Whedon. Now they have one.

Hold your breath. It gets better. Watch this space.
