Today is the birthday of one of the more fascinating personalities in fandom, and particularly in Star Wars fandom: it’s Shawn “Ob-Shawn” Crosby’s birthday!

A talented voice actor and graphic designer, stage actor and talented singer, Shawn is the creator of two Star Wars art cars and uses his resemblance to Obi-Wan Kenobi to benefit hospitals and all sorts of worthy charities. He does approximately 160 charity appearances a year as Obi-Wan, frequently working with the 501st Legion to bring the Force (and a lot of joy and support) to children all across the country.

He appears at book stores, air shows, children’s hospitals, Boy Scout events, parades, even at Disneyland, and is one of the most giving, helpful people I know.

He is broadly talented. He plays Spilvin Breyman in SCIFI.radio’s upcoming radio drama, Halfway Home: Adventures in the Asteroid Belt, and is a long time member of Lux Radio Theater. He also has a show on SCIFI.radio, Monday through Friday, called Good Morning, Tatooine! His knowledge of music and the entertainment industry is breathtaking, and he brings the music to life for his listeners. His rich, booming voice has become a familiar sound here on SCIFI.radio. He and his wife Colleen Crosby co-host SCIFI.radio’s Docking Bay 94, one of the longest running and most popular radio shows on Star Wars there is. Yet for all of this, he is one of the most modest, unassuming men I have ever met.

Happy 49th, Obi-Shawn. I’m so proud to know you, and even more proud that you are my friend.
