Happy Birthday, Arthur Darvill!

Arthur Darvill, best known for playing Rory Williams on BBC’s Doctor Who, turns 32 today! Darvill was born in Birmingham, England on June 17, 1982 and began his acting career when he was just 10 years old, at a youth theater. At age 18, he moved to London to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). He would later work with a classmate from RADA, Che Walker, on Walker’s stage show, The Frontline. Walker and Darvill collaborated on a 2009 musical Been So Long, a musical based on the eponymous 1998 play.

Darvill was nominated in 2007 for Best Newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his first professional role as the criminal Harrison in Edmund White’s Terre Haute. He would go on to be in more productions including one alongside Christian Slater in Swimming with Sharks.

In 2010, Darvill was cast as Rory Williams, companion to the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, in BBC’s massively popular science-fiction program, Doctor Who. He would quickly gain global recognition for this role, and was voted Best Supporting Actor by readers in Doctor Who magazine. His role as Rory lead to more Doctor Who-related roles, including the TV-miniseries, Pond Life.

Darvill also appeared on stage for Our Boys, Dr. Faustus, Marine Parade, and Stacy. In April 2013, Darvill joined the cast of Once as lead male, Guy. This role ran from April to December of 2013.

Along with acting, Darvill also enjoys singing, composing, and playing guitar and keyboard. He collects taxidermy as a hobby.
