Marvel has confirmed that Peyton Reed will direct the 2015 Ant-Man movie, after Edgar Wright left the production last month over “creative differences.” Marvel, however, was adamant about keeping to the scheduled release in 2015, and a few other directors were considered for the job. Rawson Thurber and Adam McKay were in the running for the job, but it ultimately didn’t work out either. However, McKay will be one of the scriptwriters on the production.

Reed’s film directorial debut was in 2000 with the cheerleader comedy Bring It On. His film repertoire consists of light comedies such as Down With Love (2003) and The Break Up (2006). While this choice is consistent with Marvel apparently wanting a comedy director for Ant-Man, Peyton isn’t nearly as stylistically unique as Edgar Wright’s brand of comedy, and many fans are already disappointed by his departure, including cast member Michael Douglas who will play the older Ant-Man, Hank Pym.

If it all goes well from here, Ant-Man will open in 2015 with Paul Rudd in the leading role as Scott Lang, the younger Ant-Man. Apart from Douglas, the film will also co-star Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Peña, Patrick Wilson and Matt Gerald.
