In 1977 Star Wars showed us laser swords that crackled, glowed and hummed, and ever since, people have been recreating this effect in fan films and technical demonstration videos. Few, however, have done it as well as Ryan Weiber.
Weiber has gone out of his way to make himself something of an expert on lightsaber fighting, and this video demonstrates just how very good he is at not only the fight choreography but the effects design as well. He could certainly be training Jedi for the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars movie, and if Abrams and company haven’t spoken to him yet, they’re missing a bet.
Today we present two videos, RvB2 and the “making of” video that shows just how much goes into an on-screen saber battle like this.
Enjoy.
