With all of the rumors floating around Star Wars fandom, any real information from Lucasfilm regarding Star Wars: Episode VII is as hard to come by as a well-aimed shot by a stormtrooper.

Understandably, the Disney-owned company is being very tight-lipped about the film and releasing any new information slowly and methodically, presumably in case any overachieving Internet jockeys find anything that could ruin the film for those of us who want to be surprised. Many Star Wars fan sites have let fly with any number of rumors, from casting decisions to filming dates.

SCIFI.radio contacted Lucasfilm directly, to learn that as yet, they have not released an official start date for shooting. Lucasfilm tells us filming will begin in the spring of 2014, but that a date for principal photography is still to be announced. They also confirmed that the release date for the highly-awaited first film in the sequel trilogy will be December 18, 2015. Lucasfilm was unable to provide SCIFI.radio with any new cast and crew information, other than to say that R2-D2 would be appearing in Episode VII , and that J.J. Abrams (Lost, Revolution, Star Trek) would be directing. There was no confirmation, however,  as to whether or not Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie  Fisher would reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa, respectively.

For all things Star Wars, Lucasfilm encourages fans to visit starwars.com.
