“Supergirl,” DC Studios’ newest feature film to hit the big screen, will be in theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures, starring Milly Alcock in the dual role of Supergirl/Kara Zor-El.
When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
If somebody told me they designed the character Lobo around Jason Momoa in the first place, I’d have believed them (this isn’t the case — Lobo made his first comic book appearance in Omega Men #3, published in June 1983. Jason Momoa made his professional acting debut in 1999 when he was cast as Jason Ioane in the series Baywatch: Hawaii.
Craig Gillespie directs the film from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira.
Strong Suggestion: See it in IMAX
The film is designed from the ground up to be seen in IMAX. It uses a shifting aspect ratio between the cinematic widescreen 2.39:1 format and the taller 1.90:1 IMAX format. Over 70 minutes of the film (more than half the runtime) were specifically shot for IMAX screens to offer an expanded vertical image. In IMAX theaters, the shifting aspect ratio allows the frame to open up vertically, revealing more of the environment during massive set pieces and cosmic action sequences. If you see it in regular theaters, you’ll get a cropped image where the IMAX footage appears, which means you won’t be getting the complete experience.

DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn are producing the film, which is based on characters from DC, Supergirl based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The film is executive produced by Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther.
Behind the camera, Gillespie is joined by director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designers Anna B. Sheppard and Michael Mooney, Visual Effects Supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, music supervisor Susan Jacobs and composer Claudia Sarne.
