Earth suffers a temporary glitch in the space-time continuum, creating sentiant walruses who are friendly but incomprehensible even though they are only slightly radioactive who derive their sustainance by a nuclear bomb but a priest tells them about the God and they are taken in by a kindly old lady who mistakes them for lost children.
