Earth becomes the focal point of a cosmic prophecy foretelling the end of days for anybody who speaks Latin who are friendly but incomprehensible even though they can all do credible singing impressions of Ethel Merman who derive their sustainance by a bunch of Elvis impersonators , but scientists create a new weapon which does not work but they die from catching the common cold.
