Earth discovers a portal to a dimension filled with sentient vegetables who want to plug us into a power grid and use us as living batteries even though they have seen every episode of Firefly and cannot be destroyed by a nuclear bomb , but scientists create a new weapon which does not work but they die from catching the common cold.
