The creators of the wildly popular game Cuphead came to the Summer Game Fest 2026 with two big reveals. They announced that development has begun on Mighty Cuphead Adventure, and a new hand animated Cuphead game.
Host Geoff Keighly introduced the new titles before giving the stage to the independent developer. They used a puppet show for the grand reveal, showing off gameplay for the new adventure game, while delivering the news that a hand-drawn Cuphead sequel is also in early development.
The team isn’t ready to show what the new game looks like yet. The original Cuphead was released in 2017, and since then has earned a reputation for being adorably cute but expert-level hard as platformers go. Mighty Cuphead Adventure, though, was a lot further along, as you can see by this gameplay demonstration video.
Mighty Cuphead Adventure features Cuphead and his friends. It’s an 8-bit, 32-color game in the tradition of the old Sega Master System games. Release for it is planned for PC and modern consoles.
