Nickelodeon Expands Avatar: The Last Airbender Universe with New Animated Series Avatar: Seven Havens

The long-awaited next chapter in Avatar: The Last Airbender has finally been revealed. In celebration of the show’s 20th anniversary, Avatar Studios has announced Avatar: Seven Havens, a brand-new animated series set in the Avatar universe. The 2D-animated series will span two seasons—26 half-hour episodes total—and is currently in production at Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.

Seven Havens introduces a new Avatar, an Earthbender who discovers her destiny after Korra—only to find that, in this shattered world, she is feared as a destroyer rather than a savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization collapses.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” said Avatar co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

DiMartino and Konietzko serve as co-creators and executive producers, alongside executive producer Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi.

The announcement comes as part of a larger expansion for the franchise under Avatar Studios, the production company founded by DiMartino and Konietzko in 2021 to develop new Avatar projects across multiple eras—Aang’s, Korra’s, and beyond. While Seven Havens is the studio’s first announced television project, they are also producing a theatrical film titled Aang: The Last Airbender, which will follow Aang and his friends as adults. That film is set for release in January 2026.

“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

With Seven Havens, the Avatar franchise now has its third animated installment, following The Last Airbender (2005–2008) and The Legend of Korra (2012–2014). This marks the first major Avatar series in over a decade and one of the most exciting franchise developments in years.

Netflix also launched a live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender in 2024, though DiMartino and Konietzko departed the project long before its debut due to creative differences.

Paramount is going all-in on Avatar’s 20th anniversary, with a full slate of new content, including digital shorts, live experiences, consumer products, and games. After years of anticipation, the next chapter of Avatar is finally taking shape.
