Lynda Carter was born Linda Jean Cordova Carter on July 24, 1951 in Phoenix Arizona. Today July 24, 2024 is her 73rd birthday. Her legacy to the world is, of course, Wonder Woman, but she’s been not only a model (she won Miss World USA in 1972), but a singer and songwriter as well,
Playing Wonder Woman in the ’70s affected some of her future roles: She played Principal Powers in Disney’s Sky High and had a cameo in Wonder Woman 1984 as Asteria. In the Arrowverse‘s Supergirl, Carter played President Olivia Marsdin. She played Chloe Sullivan’s mother in Smallville.
“Lynda Carter is THE Definitive Wonder Woman”
My esteemed colleague Michael Brown said “For many of us, Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman is the definitive Wonder Woman. I remember sitting in front of the TV as that bombastic, red-white-and-blue opening sequence came to life on the screen, with the best theme song in television superhero history blaring from the speakers. But, all of that aside, it was good storytelling of a character that many comic book writers claim to have trouble with. This is a series that understands the character and who she is. As I was discussing with my comic shop guy yesterday, there are as many bad Wonder Woman stories out there as there are good ones. And over her storied 75 years, some real stinkers. This comic book geek is proud to announce that Wonder Woman ’77 is one of the good ones.”
Lynda Carter in Other Roles
In addition to playing Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter starred in the short-lived detective show, Partners in Crime with Loni Anderson (Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati ). In the syndicated show Hawkeye, she co-starred with Lee Horsley (Talon in The Sword and the Sorcerer, Archie Goodwin on Nero Wolfe, the title role in Matt Houston). She played the governor of Vermont in the police comedy Super Troopers.
Happy Birthday, Lynda Carter!

I always loved her complaining about not being able to help the bad kids in Sky High. “I’m not Wonder Woman, y’know!”
