Congratulations Nominees
There are 32 categories in the Annie Awards, the annual animation awards presented by ASIFA each year to celebrate achievements in the art of animation.
ASIFA stands for Association Internationale du Film d’Animation, which translates to the International Animated Film Association. It was founded in 1960 in Annecy, France, by John Halas. ASIFA is a non-profit organization that promotes the art, craft, and profession of animation.
Annapurna Animation’s Nimona, produced for Netflix with its 11 nominations, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse produced by Sony Picctures Animation with its 19 have dominated the nominations, with Suzume by CoMix Wave Films and STORY inc. and The Boy and the Heron by Studio Ghibli have garnered 8 each respectively.
Notable by its absense is anything by Walt Disney Animation, and this is quite the surprise (though Pixar has done well for its character story feature film Elemental). Disney has been widely regarded as the pinnacle of the animation industry for decades now, and to have an awards season it is not dominating the nominations is jarring at very least.
Here, then, are the nominations. The award ceremony itself will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at UCLA’s Royce Hall. It’s black tie and after 5 evening wear, and attendance is limited to entrants.
