The newest Disney+ Star Wars series Andor explores the origins of Captain Cassian Andor, whose sacrifices would eventually help the Rebel Alliance take down the evil Galactic Empire. The series is a prequel to Rogue One. Diego Luna returns in the title role. The series is presented as a prequel to Rogue One, which was itself a prequel to Episode IV: A New Hope.

The trailer reveals a bit more about Andor’s evolution from common thief to galactic martyr and teases what viewers can expect from cast members Stellan Skarsgård, Morbius star Adria Arjona and Forest Whitaker, who reprises his role as Saw Gerrera.

“To steal from the Empire, you just walk in like you belong,” Andor says in the trailer. “They can’t imagine that someone like me would ever get inside their house.” But it is a cloaked Skarsgard who gives him his initial push toward true rebellion (we don’t know what character Skarsgard plays in the series; apparently he’s only in one of the 12 episode season..

The trailer has all the familiar trappings of a Star Wars series or movie. Stormtroopers and TIE fighters abound; we are also introduced to Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), whom we know will go on to lead the revolution.

Cassius Andor, as a character, begins his story arc as just a regular guy thrown into extraordinary circumstances. That’s really the point of stories like this one. They remind us that we’re all capable of something greater than we can imagine.

The first three episodes of Andor start streaming on September 21 — several weeks later than originally planned — on Disney+. The second season of Andor is already in pre-production.
