Earth is visited by living duplicates of famous cartoon characters who do not understand us even though they can all do credible singing impressions of Ethel Merman who tend to stutter under pressure when confronted by a crowd of people with pitchforks and torches , but scientists create a new weapon which does not work but they die from catching the common cold.
