This is a hilarious, beautifully made animated film about a faithful knight, and a king who’s impossible to please. It’s also a cry for help.
Created in Houdini, CGI software normally used exclusively for effects, Freelance tells of the exploits of a valiant knight who is increasingly less happy with his role doing the bidding of the king. The king keeps changing the rules the game until the knight has finally had enough.
I call it a cry for help because it is the bane of every creative to work under a supervisor who really has no idea what it is they’re asking, and who keeps asking for revisions based on nothing more than a whim.
This film was made possible with the support of SideFX Houdini.

Fun video! I literally did an LOL at the end.
Fortunately, people I’ve worked under/for usually knew their stuff. Sometimes it was, “Here’s our guidelines in writing.” And sometimes it was, “Just do it how you think it should be done and then I’ll check it.” Maybe an edit here or there, or maybe none.
But….I once had a lawyer who wanted to charge me a whole lot of money. That’s when I knew things about the applicable laws the “this is my specialty” attorney didn’t. (And no, that’s not just my ego. I not only checked the laws myself, I checked with a different attorney who said what I thought was correct.)
And some positions can have virtually no qualifications. Those include many if not all American state’s Justices of the Peace, members of the USA Congress, President of the United States, and parent.
To me, something’s wrong there.
