The live action series One Piece on Netflix has already taken fandom by storm, but with Season 2 a new character from the classic anime joins the crew: Tony Tony Chopper! This first look was screened at TUDUM, the annual Netflix fandom event.

The little baby reindeer doctor was mentioned in the announcement of Season 2 all the way back in 2023, when we posted the special message from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda. In it, he mentioned that the straw hats were going to need a great doctor in the second season, and the video closed with a hand drawn image of Tony Tony Chopper.
The One Piece worldwide crew of fans now have their first look at this charming character. Mikaela Cooper (she appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 as Rocket’s rabbit friend Floor, and will be playing Cat grant in the upcoming James Gunn movie Superman) will provide the voice and facial mocap for the little doctor in the Netflix adaptation’s sophomore season.
Introduced early on in One Piece after the events of the manga’s Drum Island arc, Chopper is an aspiring medic who wants to travel the world and expand his knowledge as a doctor. His character begins as a reindeer. Eating a devil fruit turns him into a human-reindeer hybrid, which is what sparks the whole interest in medicine in the first place. Throughout the manga series, Chopper changes form as he grows, becoming a formidable battle ready reindeer man bursting with muscle. There was considerable speculation as to which version of Tony Tony Chopper we were going to get.
We still don’t know when we’ll see Season 2 of One Piece on Netflix, except that they say it will appear sometime next year in 2026.
Four years is a long time to keep fans waiting for a second season, and we at SCIFI.radio have never heard of the second season of a popular show taking this long to sort out. But if the first season is any tell at all, it ought to be worth it. Netflix clearly thinks so.
