Superman Day is an annual observance established by DC Comics and Warner Bros. to celebrate the Man of Steel’s legacy, marking his first appearance in Action Comics #1 and the values he represents. Though the cover of Action Comics #1 carried a June 1938 cover date, it actually went on sale April 18, 1938. For its 87th anniversary this year, DC and Warner Bros. moved Superman Day to align with the true debut date, commemorating the moment Kal-El first arrived on Earth.
Today, Warner Bros. took advantage of Superman Day to release a behind the scenes look at the upcoming movie Superman, starring David Corenswet.
Superman Day was originally established for June 12, 2013, tied to Superman’s 75th anniversary and coinciding with the release of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. It was promoted to comic?book retailers and bookstores as “Man of Steel Day,” and June 12 continued to serve as the informal date for Superman Day each year through 2024.
Superman Day celebrations include screenings at events, including
- Film screenings & fan events: Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood hosts special Superman Day activities—such as a film screening of Christopher Reeve’s Superman (1978) introduced by TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz—and themed exhibits on April 18, 2025 Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood.
- In?game events: DC Universe Online runs a “Superman Day” event (April 15–28, 2025) with missions and limited?time rewards celebrating key story moments and iconic costumes.
Superman Day isn’t just about capes and Kryptonite—it’s a moment to reflect on the hero’s moral core: hope, self?sacrifice, and compassion. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938, both Jewish teenagers, Superman symbolizes resilience and strength, yes, but also service and compassion. It is often said that Superman’s greatest superpower is his connection to humanity.
