Batman will be the first ever superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a historic moment for the Caped Crusader.

It’s a big day for Gotham’s Dark Knight. On September 26, 2024, Batman will become the first superhero to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, set to take place at 11:00 AM PT in front of the Hollywood Guinness World Records Museum, will commemorate Batman’s incredible 85-year journey as one of the world’s most beloved and enduring fictional characters.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is pulling out all the stops to honor Batman’s legacy, with Steve Nissen, the Chamber’s President & CEO, leading the ceremony. DC’s own Jim Lee (President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer) and Anne DePies (Senior Vice President and General Manager) will also be speaking at the event, highlighting the Batman’s impact on comics, television, film, and popular culture at large. In addition, official Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric will present the official record for Batman as the first superhero to receive a star on the Walk of Fame.

A Legacy Built on Intelligence and Determination

Batman, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, made his debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Unlike many of his superhero counterparts, Batman relies on his intellect, physical prowess, and cutting-edge technology to fight crime, inspiring generations with his tale of overcoming personal tragedy and standing up for justice. Over the years, Batman’s adventures have spanned comic books, television series, animated shows, and major Hollywood films.

From Adam West’s portrayal in the classic 1966 television series to Michael Keaton’s return in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie, and more recently Robert Pattinson’s darker, grittier take in The Batman (2022), each iteration has brought new layers to the character while staying true to the core of what makes Batman so universally appealing: his unyielding resolve and commitment to protecting Gotham City, no matter the odds. Batman has transcended his story into one of the great American myths.

Batman’s Impact on Pop Culture

Through comic runs by legendary creators like Neal Adams, Frank Miller, Scott Snyder, and Jim Lee, Batman has continued to evolve while staying true to his roots as the World’s Greatest Detective. His on-screen portrayals have been equally influential, with Batman: The Animated Series winning an Emmy Award for its writing and character development. The series also introduced the world to Kevin Conroy’s definitive voice performance.

Batman’s cinematic history has also played a crucial role in shaping the modern superhero genre. Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) set the stage for comic book movies as a serious form of storytelling, while Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy redefined the genre, blending high-stakes action with profound philosophical questions about heroism, morality, and sacrifice.

A Star Among Stars

Batman’s star will be fittingly placed near the stars of his television counterpart, Adam West, and his co-creator, Bob Kane, paying homage to the character’s storied past while celebrating his place in modern culture.

It is hard to frame this event in human terms. In this event, we honor the contribution to popular culture that Batman represents, as well as the amazing creative work of all the men and women that have made that happen over the decades. It’s the first time the Hollywood Walk of Fame has honored a comic book superhero in this way, and somehow it feels just a little bit out of kilter. Still, for 85 years, he has been more than just a comic book character; he is a symbol of hope, resilience, and justice. That’s hard to ignore.

The ceremony will be streamed live at www.walkoffame.com, allowing fans across the globe to witness this historic moment.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame, a cultural landmark since the 1960s, continues to celebrate the achievements of artists and entertainers who have shaped the entertainment industry. It’s administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which has overseen the installation of nearly 2,800 stars, each honoring individuals and characters who have left an indelible mark on the world.
