TRANSFORMERS ONE features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.

This origin story film shows us, among other things, where the Transformers got their ability to transform, and amusingly, at first they really, really suck at it.

The film is being produced by Michael Bay and eleven other producers, which is pretty unusual. When you see something like that, it’s often because the person being given producer’s credit has leveraged a contractual obligation. Sometimes it’s because they kicked in money, or own the intellectual property. In this case one of the other producers is Steven Spielburg. It’s being directed by Josh Cooley, who also directed Toy Story 4.

Transformers One is noteworthy in that it looks like all the animation is done by Industrial Light and Magic, a studio known for providing visual effects, but not necessarily for animating entire features. The casting where they’ve identified the characters on IMDB goes like this:

The other actors, John Hamm, Steve Buscemi, and Laurence Fishburne, do not have roles identified.

Transformers One has a scheduled release date of September 20, 2024.
