Dr. Scott Viguie, STEM teacher, practicing attorney, archeologist, and author, a remarkable individual whose life journey exemplified resilience, intelligence, and creativity, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. His departure leaves an indelible void in the hearts of his beloved wife, Debbie Viguie, family, friends, and a broad community inspired by his work. He was 52.

Born in 1971 in San Francisco, California, Scott’s early challenges with cerebral palsy set the stage for a life marked by overcoming obstacles. His pioneering surgeries enabled him to not only walk but to excel in various physical activities. Scott’s determination saw him join an acting group, engage in collegiate sports, and notably, become the captain of the U.C. Davis fencing team.

Scott’s intellectual pursuits were equally impressive. He earned two doctorate degrees and thrived in dual careers as an attorney and an archaeologist. However, his passion for education and science led him to a unique path. He created “Doctor Geek’s Laboratory of Applied Geekdom,” a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) outreach radio show. This innovative program, blending real science with science fiction, became a valuable resource for homeschooling parents and a beacon for science enthusiasts.

Together with his wife, Debbie, Scott founded Brazen Wench Productions, a company dedicated to science fiction, fantasy, horror, and mystery projects. This venture brought his character, Doctor Geek, from the audio world to the visual medium, further expanding his influence and legacy.

Dr. Viguie’s contributions to the world of science fiction and fantasy were immense. He was a regular guest at various conventions, where he skillfully contrasted the portrayal of archaeology in fiction with its reality. His work on myths and their impact on modern archaeology and storytelling has been widely recognized and respected. The outpouring of affection towards Dr. Viguie upon the news of his death underscores just how beloved he was in the sci-fi fandom community.

Described by his wife as a combination of a Disney prince, Admiral Kirk, and The Doctor, Scott was known for his kind words, deep belly laughs, and a down-to-earth nature despite his towering intellect. He will be remembered as a beacon of light, guiding and inspiring those around him. Scott was one of a kind, and irreplaceable.

Details regarding his funeral will be announced soon. As we mourn the loss of Dr. Scott Viguie, we also celebrate his extraordinary life—a life that will continue to inspire future generations in the realms of science, education, and the arts.
