The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere on Paramount+ in just three weeks. Following last month’s teaser trailer, a new trailer has been released today, offering a more detailed glimpse into what the new season holds.

In this trailer, we get to hear the first dialogue from Chief Engineer Pelia (Carol Kane), and of course there’s plenty of action.Notably, the new trailer introduces a crossover episode that blends live-action and animation, with characters from Star Trek: Lower Decks, Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), featured on the U.S.S. Enterprise.

For international audiences, the trailer is available on Instagram.

The cast of Strange New Worlds includes Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. Season 2 also sees the return of special guest star Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk, and introduces Carol Kane in a recurring role as Pelia, the new chief engineer for the Enterprise, replacing Bruce Horak as Lt. Hemmer in that ship’s crew position .

Mariner and Boimler’s arrival on the Enterprise is a bit of a puzzle, because in the Trek timeline they come from about 150 years in Captain Pike’s future,so it will be interesting to see how they work out this somewhat dubious plot development. Of course, Mariner and Boimler’s behavior and history aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos is somewhat dubious to start with, so anything could happen. Their visit is highlighted with an image from the transporter room. Their crossover episode, a self-described “flat-out comedy”, was directed by TNG veteran Jonathan Frakes.

The second season also unveils a new poster that features the main cast.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 is set to premiere on Thursday, June 15 on Paramount+ in multiple countries. The 10-episode season will air weekly on Thursdays after the premiere. The second season will also be available in South Korea with premiere dates to be announced later.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is currently available to stream on Paramount+ in multiple regions and on select channels in Canada and parts of Europe.
