Adam Savage of Mythbusters has been been a guest at every Silicon Valley ComicCon since the convention began in 2016. He has now been appointed Creative Director of the con, which has been renamed SiliCon. Silicon I will be October 16-18, 2020 in San Jose, CA. Adam Savage told the San Francisco Chronicle: “I’m beyond ecstatic to play a deeper role in a creative capacity on the show’s direction and look forward to celebrating everything we love about cons. The incredible stories, the theater and community and endless ingenuity of cosplay, and the delightful camaraderie around even the most niche franchises. “As a maker, I’m chomping at the bit to take even a deeper dive into all aspects of making as it intersects with this amazing community. I want everyone to fly their freak flag!” Steve Wozniak of Apple, who founded Silicon Valley ComicCon, expressed his approval of Savage as the new creative director of Silicon. “Adam Savage is my favorite guest that we have ever had, and it is fitting that he is joining the team.” Silicon will continue, as Silicon Valley ComicCon did, combining real STEM with popular culture and entertainment. Previous guests have included astronauts, scientists, game designers, and leaders in technology, as well as actors Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman, Stargate:Atlantis), William Shatner (Star Trek, Barbary Coast), and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Total Recall). The late Stan Lee was also an honored guest. While SVCC continues under a new name and under new leadership, the San Diego gaming convention Kingdom-Con is ending after a decade. San Diego has always been a good town for SF conventions, San Diego ComicCon, one of the biggest, oldest conventions in the USA, ConQuistador, ConDor, the infamous ConDigeo (who can forget "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my weekend. Prepare to die!"?), RevelCon, Kingdom-Con. Kingdom-Con is no more. It went from 200 gamers ten years ago to 1,500 people in 2019. Nothing, alas, lasts forever.
