Disney Release Calendar Archives

Walt Disney Studios has announced the release dates of eight movies, ranging from spring of 2018 to Thanksgiving of 2020. The movies are, in order: A Wrinkle in Time, March 9, 2018 Magic Camp, April 6, 2018 Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, November 21, 2018 Star Wars: Episode 9, May 24, 2019 The Lion King (live action) July 19, 2019 Frozen 2, November 27, 2019 untitled Indiana Jones movie, July 10, 2020 Gigantic, November 25, 2020 Four of the movies are sequels, three are remakes or reboots. Two have release dates, but don't have names yet. Gugu Mbatha-Raw in JUPITER ASCENDING A Wrinkle in Time is a remake of the award-winning book by Madeleine L’Engle, which has never gone out of print since its publication in 1963. Reese Witherspoon will be playing Mrs. Whatsit, Oprah Winfrey will be Mrs. Which, and Mindy Kaling will be Mrs. Who. Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Plumette in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Tish Jones in Dr. Who) will portray Dr. Kate Murry and Chris Pine (Kirk in the Star Trek reboots, Steve Trevor in the new Wonder Woman movie) will play her husband, Dr. Alex Murry. Magic Camp stars Aldis Hodge (Alec Hardison on Leverage) as Devin, Adam DeVine as Andy, and Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Tambor (Murray on Max Headroom, Tom Manning in Hellboy) as Magic Camp owner Roy Preston. Andy, a failed magician, returns to the Magic Camp he attended as a child, to take a job as a camp counselor and maybe, just maybe, revive his career. Image via Disney Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 was originally announced as opening on March 9, 2018, but the release date has been pushed back almost a year. It's a sequel to the original (and widely popular) Wreck-It Ralph. John C. Reilly will be returning as Ralph and Sarah Silverman will be returning as Vanellope Von Schweetz. Star Wars, Episode IX, was originally intended to be the final movie of the series. With prequels like Rogue One and the young Han Solo movie, that seems unlikely. Fans speculate that the movie will culminate in either the death or the redemption of Kylo Ren. The live action version of The Lion King will have James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa. Donald Glover, who will be Lando Calrissian in the new Han Solo , will be Simba. Little has been announced about Frozen 2 beyond the fact that Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell will be reprising their roles as Queen Elsa and Princess Anna. Harrison Ford will return as dashing archaeologist Indiana Jones in a as-yet untitled movie. As Ford is currently 75, some fans wonder if he will take on a mentor's role in this movie and let a younger protege handle most of the action, possibly Shia LaBeouf as his illegitimate son Mutt Williams. Gigantic, a new version of Jack and the Beanstalk, follows in the footsteps of Enchanted, Tangled, Brave, and Frozen by attempting to attract boys into the theater, by using an adjective for the title rather than the name chosen by Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen. -30-
