Earth suffers a temporary glitch in the space-time continuum, creating sentiant walruses who understand us all too well even though they can all do credible singing impressions of Ethel Merman who tend to stutter under pressure when confronted by the army, navy, air force, space force and/or marines but they fall in love with a young girl and they all get day jobs.
