Project Hail Mary stars Canadian actor/singer Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace, an amnesiac astronaut who must attempt to save the Earth with the help of an alien named Rocky. Surprisingly, Andy Weir, the author of the book upon which this movie is based, does not think this is a serious spoiler.
Dr. Tyland Grace is in trouble, a lot of trouble. If he doesn’t succeed in his mission, all life on Earth will die.
“Dr. Grace, the world is counting on you.”
“There are infinite possibilities for this to go wrong.”

Will he succeed? Probably, or they can’t film a sequel. But how will he pull it off? That’s the question directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller hope will keep you glued to the edge of your seat.
Lord and Miller wrote Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and co-directed The Lego Movie (2014) and 21Jump Street (2012).
German actress Sandra Hüller co-stars as Eva Stratt, the head of the Hail Mary Project back on Earth. It looks like it’s one part The Andromeda Strain, one part Space Cowboys, and two parts The Martian. The script is by Drew Goddard, who wrote the script for The Martian (2016) and scripts for several episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Like, The Martian, Project Hail Mary is based on a book by Andy Weir.
The question is, at the price of movie tickets, does it look good enough to go see, when you know it will be on television in a year or two? Have a look. See what you think.
Ryan Gosling is a Canadian actor who began his theatrical career at the tender age of thirteen on The All New Mickey Mouse Club. From there, he went on to Who’s Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps. Gosling played Ken in Barbie (2023). Gosling has a rock band, Dead Man’s Bones, whose music may occassionally be heard here on SciFi.Radio.
Project Hail Mary is scheduled to be released in theaters Friday, March 20, 2026.
