Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppets ensemble are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!

“I can’t believe they’re doin’ the old show again.”

“Well, if it ain’t broke…”

“No, they are broke. That’s why they’re doin’ it!”

Also appearing in this pilot episode are Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogan.

The show is a one-off, but it’s something the industry calls a “backdoor pilot”. This means that if the special is successful, Disney intends to launch a full scale revival series. From the trailer, they clearly understand the assignment, using the extra money to fix things up subtly instead of jumping the shark with it. The camera is more mobile, the sets perfectly reconstructed from footage of the original series. That look of painted cardboard that served well enough for the original series is replaced with more carefully designed sets that preserve the look at feel of the originals while still standing up well on high definition television more than six times the resolution on which we saw the original series.

The Muppet Show, a special event, returns February 4 on Disney+ and ABC.

My personal reaction? I think you can guess.
