Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, is in custody following the deaths of his parents on Sunday afternoon.

According to Los Angeles Police Department records, Nick Reiner was arrested Sunday night at approximately 9:15 p.m. and formally booked early Monday morning at 5:04 a.m. on a felony charge. There is no confirmation from LAPD as to whether his arrest is directly connected to the homicide investigation, but his booking entry lists the incident under “gang activity.” Bail for Nick Reiner has been set at $4 million.

Rob and Michele Reiner were discovered dead inside their Brentwood home at around 3:40 p.m. Sunday. Police have stated that the deaths are being investigated as a homicide. No official identification of a suspect had been released as of this writing.

In a statement released through a family spokesperson, the Reiners’ relatives said, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about struggles with addiction and co-wrote the 2015 film Being Charlie, which his father directed and which drew on some of those experiences.

Rob Reiner had a significant career behind the camera, directing films across multiple genres, one of the most enduring of which The Princess Bride (1987), a beloved fantasy adventure that blends romance, witty meta-narrative, and swashbuckling charm — a film that has become a touchstone of genre crossovers in popular culture.

While Reiner’s filmography spans drama, comedy, and thrillerS, The Princess Bride stands out as his most enduring contribution to fantasy cinema: an adaptation of William Goldman’s novel that still inspires references across media and fandom nearly four decades on. His iconic film Stand By Me (1986) defined the pinacle of cinematic achievement for the generations that followed.

Rob and Michele Reiner are survived by two other children, Jake and Romy. Rob Reiner also adopted Tracy Reiner during his marriage to actress and director Penny Marshall.
