Superhero fatigue? Marvel Television’s Wonder Man pokes a hole in that notion with a new six episode series based on the original Marvel Comics character.
In the series, the director Trevor Slattery What the trailer doesn’t tell you is that the actor who plays Wonder Man in the remake (they namecheck Disney in the script) actually gets superpowers of his own.
Starring Yahya Adbul-Mateen II as the actor Simon Williams, Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, AKA the actor who portrayed the Mandarin and who subsequently goes missing, and Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams / the Grim Reaper, the series presents itself as a superhero satire, and a “love letter to Los Angeles and the acting industry”.
After the SAG-AFTRA strike of 2023, filming resumed by early January 2024. There was a delay in filming caused by the February 2024 death of J.C. “Spike” Osorio, a lighting technician who fell to his death while working on set at Radford Studio Center on February 6 of that year, after falling from the rafters. Filming wrapped in April of 2024, and post production began in June of that year.
Andrew Guest is the showrunner, with Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) directing..
Wonder Man releases as an eight episode mini-series on Disney+ on January 27, 2026, so we’ve got a little bit of a wait ahead of us. We’re going to assume there will be additional trailers leading up to the series release.
