They’re still figuring this whole “saving the realm” thing out.
The Mighty Nein follows a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets and scars. But when a powerful arcane relic known as “The Beacon” falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm and stop reality itself from unraveling.
Big news for fans of Critical Role, TTRPGs and animation: the brand-new trailer for The Mighty Nein just dropped on Prime Video, and it’s everything we hoped for.
A New Chapter in Exandria
The Mighty Nein is the newest adult animated fantasy series from Metapigeon, Titmouse, and Amazon MGM Studios, headed to Prime Video. It adapts Campaign Two of Critical Role — not with slavish fidelity, but with a creative spirit to expand and deepen the original story, much as The Legend of Vox Machina did before it.
We first heard about the project back in January 2023, with production ramping quickly thereafter.
This isn’t a reboot, a parallel reimagination, or a side-tale — it’s a continuation, set 20 years after the events of Vox Machina. So if you’ve been waiting for that connective bridge into Wildemount… here it is.
The Mighty Nein is about a ragtag group of outsiders, each with secrets and scars, who end up entwined in a cosmic conspiracy: a powerful arcane artifact called The Beacon has fallen into dangerous hands. They have to pull together to stop the realm from tearing itself apart.
The original Critical Role cast is back to bring these characters to life:
- Laura Bailey as Jester Lavorre (tiefling cleric, Traveler worshipper)
- Marisha Ray as Beauregard “Beau” Lionett (Cobalt Soul monk with a detective streak)
- Taliesin Jaffe as Mollymauk “Molly” Tealeaf (tiefling blood hunter turned carnival tarot reader)
- Ashley Johnson as Yasha Nydoorin (the aasimar barbarian from Xhorhas)
- Liam O’Brien as Caleb Widogast (the spell-flinging human wizard)
- Travis Willingham as Fjord Stone (half-orc warlock/sailor)
- Sam Riegel as Nott the Brave (goblin rogue with a weakness for drink)
- Matthew Mercer as Essek Thelyss (drow wizard and big player in the power games between Empire and Dynasty)
That roster alone gives you a sense that this won’t be a hollow cash-grab — it’s built with the integrity and passion of the original campaign.
Titmouse is no stranger to this kind of work. They’ve already animated The Legend of Vox Machina in partnership with Critical Role and Amazon. and they are very famously the same animation studio responsible for five seasons of Star Trek: Lower Decks. The studio has a hand in heavy-hitting adult animation like The Boys Presents: Diabolical (which ties into the The Boys franchise), and they even co-produced the sci-fi series Scavengers Reign.
The Mighty Nein crash lands exclusively on Prime Video November 19.
