The first trailer for director Jon Favreau’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, starring Pedro Pascal from his “Mandalorian” Disney+ series, has hit the ‘net.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
The Mandalorian and Grogu was first announced in January 2024 and is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. Pedro Pascal’s masked Mandalorian and his animatronic sidekick Grogu (dubbed “Baby Yoda” by the public before his name was revealed in the final season) are both back. This makes sense, of course, but we get some extra bonuses, with the cast also includes the iconic Sigourney Weaver as a fighter pilot, Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta and Jonny Coyne as an imperial warlord.
We get a wonderful array of Star Wars monsters and robots for the duo to fight, and cameos from In the trailer, Mando and Grogu meet Weaver and White’s characters and fight a variety of evil robots and sci-fi beasts. Rotta the Hut has his own rancor pit, and there are also cameos with Babu Frik (Rise of Skywalker) and Zeb Orrelios (Star Wars Rebels). Oh, and watching that AT-AT topple and fall over the edge of a narrow mountain trail is just epic all by itself.
The series The Mandalorian takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The eponymous Mandalorian is taking jobs in the outer reaches of the galaxy when he discovers that one of his assignments is the collection of a small, defenseless creature who turns out to be massively Force sensitive. The two form an unlikely bond, and as the saying goes, “hijinks ensue”.
Favreau is producing the film alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm CCO and former supervising director of the beloved animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
