Co-created by John Bailey Owen, Zach Marcus, co-producers of The Amazing Digital Circus, and Dana Terrace (the creator and showrunner of Disney’s The Owl House), Knights of Guinevere is a pyschological thriller that welcomes you to a planet-wide theme partk in the clouds. And in the shadows below, a broken Princess Android is two dreamers’ ticket to a better life—or the end of them.
Dana Terrace and the team of creators at Glitch Productions have set up a Glitch Productions store for Knights of Guinevere, in part to help get the first season produced. The success of The Amazing Digital Circus has given Glitch Productions enough breathing room that they can start ramping this project up. There is no question that the public wants to see this. The pilot episode having achieved a staggering seven million views on YouTube in less than two days.
The future of animation seems to be in the hands of independent creators over the big studios now. The Owl House was ham-handedly canceled before it could have a proper third season, and the reason this happened was that Disney wanted to switch to Disney+ for their serialized cartoons and make Disney Channel purely episodic cartoons. They decided to give TOH the short three-special third season it got so they could get rid of it as soon as possible, so despite the fact that TOH was wildly popular, Disney put the show in a blender and hit “frappé”.
When a show’s fate is decided on this basis, it’s clear that the big box media corporations have lost touch with what made them great in the first place. There are too many layers of bean counters between the creators and their audience. This leaves the door of opportunity wide open for independent creators who can shorten that line of supply and talk directly to their audience in a way that the major streamers and studios can’t.
