Louie Zong is a master not only of music theory, but the innovative singer and composer also illustrates and animates the videos for his own work.

Today’s offering is a beautiful example of the sheer delight and fun that seems to be the throughline for everything Zong does. It’s all in the title. It’s a silly pun, based on the popular virtual artist Hatsune Miku. She’s so popular, in fact, that she’s done live concerts.

Hatsune Miku is not from a single anime but is a Vocaloid character who makes appearances and cameos in various anime, most notably as a recurring character in Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion and Dropkick on My Devil!. She has also appeared in other anime through cosplayers, figures, or parodies, such as in Lucky Star and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. An official Hatsune Miku anime movie, Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, is also scheduled for release in 2025.

Zong actually has a vocal simulator called Vocaloid sing on most of his work. It’s a fascinating blend of direct human skill and creativity, and fun tools in software that finish the creation. The Vocoloid singing syntheisizer has an enormous following, and has been in distribution in some form or other since 2004.
