
Actress Priscilla Pointer, who appeared in Carrie (1976) ,Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), and Twilight Zone: the Movie(1983) has died at the age of 100.
Priscilla MariePointer was born on May 18, 1924, in New York City. She passed away April 28, 2025, in Bridgefield, Connecticut. In between, her theatrical career stretched over decades, from 1948 to 2014. She appeared on Broadway, on television, and in several films, including horror films and the zombie comedy C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud (1989), which was directed by her son, David Irving. Pointer played Dr. Berlin.
Pointer was married twice and widowed twice. She had two children with her first husband, director David Irving and actress Amy Irving. She worked with both her children professionally. In Carrie, Amy Irving played Sue Snell, one of the girls who tormented Carrie White, and Pointer played her mother, Mrs. Snell. In the 1990s Flash TV show, the one starring John Wesley Shipp, not the Arrowverse one starring Grant Gustin, Pointer played Nora Allen, Barry Allen’s mother, in three episodes.

Priscilla Pointer was married to director Jules Irving, who was the artistic director for the famed Lincoln Center from 1947 to 1979. They were married for 30 years. Their marriage was blessed with two children, David and Amy. Finding life as a widow too lonely, she remarried in 1980 to actor/director Robert Symonds. The two appeared together in Ice Pirates(1984), he as Lanky Nibs, she in an unnamed role.
Priscilla Pointer died only weeks before her 101st birthday. She is survived by her children David Irving and Amy Irving, and her grandsons Max Spielberg and Gabriel Barreto. Both her husbands predeceased her.
Outside of horror gilms, she’ll be best remembered for playing Rebecca Barnes Wentworth on the prime-time soap opera Dallas and Mrs. Beaumont in Blue Velvet (1986). In addition to Carrie, she appeared with her daughter Amy in Honeysuckle Rose (1980), The Competition (1980), Carried Away (1996), and Micki & Maude (1984). Her son David directed her in Rumpelstiltskin and C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud. She and her second husband, Robert Symond, played husband and wife in the action thriller Inferno (1999). She co-starred in the 1950’s TV show China Smith. Pointer starred as Adrienne Harris in the soap opera Where the Heart Is in 1972-73.
Priscilla Pointer had a long, full life, and we hope, a happy one. Our deepest condolences to her children and grandchildren.
