Today’s musical convention is Dragons Are a Girl’s Best Friend, featuring the musical talents of Whitney Avalon, Ginny Di, and Anjali Bhimani. The visuals are appealing, the lyrics are too clever by half, but the vocals unexpectedly soar. You know, like dragons.

The song is based on the Marilyn Monroe classic Diamons are a Girls Best Friend, from the 1959 film Some Like it Hot. It’s all part of Monster Week 2025, songs about monsters, dragons and other foul creatures (follow this link to hear it).

LYRICS

Though some are glad to die for gold
Those adventurers are fools
I much prefer a flying friend
To dumb expensive jewels

A gem on your ring may be classy and shiny
But dragons are a girl’s best friend
A gem’s quite a thing but it won’t eat my tiny, whiny
Enemies or burn a town down with a sneeze
Find allies as time goes by
They’re the few on whom you can depend
But ancient or wyrmling they’re worth more than sterling
Dragons are a girl’s best friend

Acid! Lightning!
Force! Fire! Cold! Poison!
So many flavors, you must try ‘em all!

There’s nothing more fun than when they get their bite on
‘Cause dragons are a girl’s best friend
Yes, this is the one point Daenerys was right on
Oh, I feel such glee when NPCs attempt to flee
First they breathe, then you loot and leave
That’s the plan that I must recommend
For whether chromatic or even metallic
Dragons are a girl’s best friend

(hic) Sorry, a Puff of Smaug always makes me Hiccup.

Since most of their kind you’ll find truly hypnotic
Those dragons are a girl’s best friend
And most are aligned so sublimely chaotic
Get some wingèd mates and soon your fate will be just great
Like holy grails they’ll tip the scales
Till we’re blessed with success in the end
Medieval upheaval
Who cares if they’re eeeeeeeevil?
Dragons… Dragons…
I don’t mean pseudo
But dragons are a girl’s best best friend! YEAH!

What a joy to work with gals who are not only triple threats and total sweethearts – but also world-renowned for knowing a thing or two about dragons (and dungeons!) Enjoy as Anjali Bhimani, Ginny Di, and I parody Marilyn Monroe and epic fantasy like “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings” in another of my extremely silly mashups.
