It’s the first glimpse of the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and four of the Enterprise crew have been accepted with a genetic editor that converts them to being fully Vulcan for an away mission. What could possibly go wrong?

The Star Trek Universe uncloaked a litany of first looks during its epic panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, including panels for the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks and the first television feature film in the franchise, Star Trek: Section 31.

Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn, along with executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman, unveiled an extended clip from Season 3 of Strange New Worlds. In this preview, several main characters—Pike (Anson Mount), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and Chapel (Jess Bush)—undergo a transformation from humans to Vulcans. Meanwhile, Chief Engineer Pelia (Carol Kane) tries to join in the transformation but, to her frustration, the process doesn’t work for her.

Spock’s now-Vulcanized friends quickly zero in on his half-Vulcan heritage, much to his dismay. The mission goes faster and more efficiently than usual, but when they return to the Enterprise, the away team makes an unfortunate discovery. The clip also features Martin Quinn as a young Montgomery Scott, the future Enterprise chief engineer, with Myers confirming he will be a series regular this season.

It was also revealed during the panel that the premiere date for Star Trek: Lower Decks fifth and final season will be October 24, 2024.

The third season of Strange New Worlds is not slated for release until 2025.
