Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in.
After two decades, the chickens are hatching a new plan in the eagerly awaited first trailer for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. The sequel to the beloved 2000 stop-motion film is set to arrive on Netflix this November, much to the delight of fans.
The trailer wastes no time jumping back into the action, finding Ginger, Rocky, and their chicken comrades finally free after escaping the Tweedy’s farm. But Dr. Fry soon shatters their hard-won freedom, intent on capturing Rocky to use in his latest chicken pot pie formula. Ginger and Rocky’s plucky daughter Molly takes charge to save the chickens and her missing father from Fry’s clutches.
Several fan-favorite characters are returning, including the eccentric chickens Babs, Bunty and Mac, voiced by Lynn Ferguson, Imelda Staunton and Jane Horrocks. Miranda Richardson also reprises her role as the intimidating Mrs. Tweedy. Newcomers include Zachary Levi as Rocky, Thandiwe Newton as Ginger, and Bella Ramsey as Molly.
Judging by the thrilling trailer footage, the sequel looks to deliver on the sharp wit, family-friendly adventure, and silly charm that made Chicken Run so much fun. Callbacks to classic moments, like Ginger’s pie machine, signal that this new story will honor the original. And, Aardman’s signature claymation appears as impressive as ever, enhanced by cutting-edge technology, according to director Nick Park.
While some fans may be disappointed by recastings, the talented new voice actors seem poised to make these beloved roles their own. And with legendary composer John Powell re-teaming with Harry Gregson-Williams, the soundtrack should hit all the right notes too.
Over twenty years later, Aardman looks to have crafted a sequel both nostalgic adults and young viewers will relish. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget flies onto Netflix just in time for Thanksgiving, ready to continue this plucky franchise’s legacy.
