In 2023, the iconic BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who will celebrate its impressive 60th anniversary! While the network has been tight-lipped about what’s in store for the special, they did release a thrilling trailer over the Christmas weekend.
However, things get a bit awkward between them, as the Doctor has undergone a backward regeneration, making him the Fourteenth instead of the Tenth. This is confusing for both of them, especially since Donna Noble’s memory of her entire experience with the Doctor has been erased.
The trailer also includes new stills of returning characters Sylvia Noble (Jacqueline King) and Shaun Temple (Karl Collins), as well as newcomer Shirley Anne Bingham (Ruth Madeley). This three-part anniversary extravaganza will air in November 2023, followed by the debut of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor in 2024.
It is a long time to wait for new Doctor Who, and it’s hard to sustain an audience when a few episodes of television take so long to produce. Returning producer Russel T. Davies is fully aware of the problem, and pledges to get Doctor Who back on an annual release schedule.
