Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater are back in a new series from Disney / Pixar. Each of them is a misfit in his own way; the two are on a road trip to see Mater’s sister. It’s an opportunity to see the country, and every little weird side attraction along the way.
The nine episode series borrows inspiration from every corner, from Mad Max to the Haunted Mansion, putting the two traveling companions in all sorts of unlikely situations.
Unlike previous shows, such as Mater’s Tall Tales (2008) and Tales from Radiator Springs (2013) (excluding “Bugged” and “The Radiator Springs 500 1/2”), this will be the first time Owen Wilson voiced Lightning McQueen outside of the movies since basically the theme park Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy (2019). The comedian Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater, a role he has filled in every Cars production, including the video games.
Now this is odd: when did Lightning McQueen get headlights? In the movies, they’re just decals.
The directors of the series are Brian Fee, Bobby Podesta and Steve Purcell. The executive producer of the show (and there’s only one listed, meaning he’s doing the actual work) is Pete Docter.
