Let’s set aside, for a moment, the fact that this is a trailer for a game that even casual gamers will want to play, and that the motivations for the combatants seem to be little more than slap-stick pie fight stuff. It’s just fun to watch, and so well animated that we just can’t tear ourselves away.

Of course a big part of that is knowing that it’s a trailer, so it’s only a few minutes of our lives, but it’s time well spent.

In MultiVersus, the Multiverse* is at your fingertips as you battle it out in intense 2v2 matches. Up against Batman & Shaggy? Try using Bugs Bunny & Arya Stark! This platform fighter lets you play out your fantasy matchups in a fun co-op or head-to-head fight for supremacy.

MultiVersus is an all-new free-to-play, platform fighter videogame. With an ever-expanding cast of iconic characters and legendary universes, MultiVersus will feature multiple online modes, including a team-based 2 vs. 2 format, 1 vs. 1 matches and 4-player free-for-all, along with upcoming content-filled seasons. From their world, straight into ours! Check out our legendary roster of Icons!

The whole thing starts with Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy himself) being suddenly teleported onto the scene from his Batcave to an island littered with ancient columns. (where it is isn’t exactly clear, but it looks like the island of Themiscera) and being confronted with an outsized Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) who finds himself in the same situation. The fact that the characters aren’t in the same model scale is your first clue that the characters come from different universes, and it doesn’t stop there.

Other characters who arrive include a gamified version of Arya Stark (voiced by Maisie Williams), The Tazmanian Devil, Bugs Bunny (Eric Tauza), Garnet and Steven from Steven Universe (voiced by singing artist Estelle and Daniel Divinere respectively), Harley Quinn (that’s Tara Strong, the one and only), Finn and Jake from Adventure Time (Jeremy Shada and John DiMagio), and culminating in the arrive of Superman (voiced by George Newbern, who was the voice of Superman in Superman: The Animated Series), and even The Iron Giant (voiced by John Lipow).

They’ve pulled out all the stops. This is the most original voice artists assembled for one game I can ever remember seeing.

Of course it’s a game that takes advantage of as much intellectual property Warner Bros. can bring to bear, but at the end of the day, it’s entertainment, and it looks like fun.
