From Epic Games and Marvel: A Zero Point shard lands in the Marvel Universe, causing their worlds to collide as the hunt for the Zero Shard begins. The story is told in a new, five-issue comic book series called Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War.

The Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War issues will be available in print at comic stores and digitally via the Marvel Comics app and Marvel Unlimited. Each issue includes a code for a Fortnite cosmetic item redeemable at fortnite.com/redeem. The first issue releases on June 8, 2022, and includes a code for a Spider-Man-based Outfit.

The five-issue limited series is from Marvel writer Christos Gage, Epic Games’ Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard, and artist Sergio Davíla, and will tell a new, in-continuity tale.

Here are the in-game items Marvel and Fortnite fans can look forward to unlocking in the coming issues:

  • FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR New Spider-Man Outfit – Exclusive to comic buyers for a limited time
  • FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR New Iron Man Wrap – Exclusive to comic buyers for a limited time
  • FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR New Wolverine Pickaxe – Exclusive to comic buyers for a limited time
  • FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR New FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR Spray – Exclusive to comic buyers
  • FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR New FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR Loading Screen – Exclusive to comic buyers
  • Any fan who redeems all five codes will receive a new bonus FORTNITE X MARVEL: ZERO WAR Outfit

This is a follow-up to the 2020 crossover FORTNITE X MARVEL – NEXUS WAR: THOR.

An interesting possibility about this idea is that it’s not limited to the Marvel Universe. Fornite actually made it into DC continuity with the Batman/Fortnite crossover Batman: Zero Point, meaning that thanks to Fortnite and Zero Shards, Marvel and DC are near to crossing over together!

For now, Epic Games is leading in building a metaverse with famous intellectual property. They have accumulated $2B in outside investments so that they can pursue the grand McGuffin that is the Metaverse. It might be a little confusing for consumers right now, seeing that Metaverse buzzword bandied about so freely but with no actual product to attach it to, but that will change.
