A new chapter is about to be written in the history of the Star Wars universe, and it starts with The Book of Boba Fett. The new trailer that just dropped for the series set to come to Disney+ in December shows us what’s to come in the future of the galactic criminal underworld…and it doesn’t look like the galaxy’s favorite bounty hunter is going to have an easy time of taking up the mantle once worn by Jabba the Hutt.

The new spinoff of the smash hit Disney+ exclusive The Mandalorian follows the rise of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) as he takes up the throne once held by the infamous crime lord, picking up directly from the post credits scene on the season two finale of its predecessor. Fett makes his position clear at the outset, simple and to the point.”

Jabba ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect.

Those who served under and stood against Jabba, however, aren’t going to take him at his word. The trailer features clips of multiple violent confrontations, as well as a rocky round table with Jabba’s former captains who rankle at the change in the organization’s leadership. With Ming-Na Wen reprising her role as Fennec Shand, who will apparently be serving as Fett’s right hand in the series, Fett must rely on her support to help establish his own rule over Jabba’s criminal empire. The story of this series appears to be set on that goal, and in this world: that of the galaxy’s rich and intricate criminal underworld, and specifically on the planet of Tatooine.

Given that The Book Of Boba Fett is set in a post-Return of the Jedi landscape, where the galaxy is still in chaos after the fall of the Empire, it’s going to be a rough road for Fett and company to how as they try to take control of Jabba’s organization. There’s no telling who may show up to try and oust Fett from his new throne, or how politics might factor into his dealings – after all, during the fall of the Republic, Jabba’s favor was courted by many trying to sway the balance of power. Will such individuals show up on Fett’s doorstep? We’ll have to wait and see.

The Book Of Boba Fett premieres exclusively on Disney+ on December 29th – may the Force be with Boba Fett, and with us all.
