New York Comic Con is often the source of new revelations about Star Trek, and this weekend proved fruitful as well: Star Trek: Discovery unveiled their Season 4 trailer during the Trek panel.
The new trailer picks up right where Season 3 left off, with Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green)taking command of the U.S.S Discovery. In their dazzling new 33rd century uniforms, the crew of the Discovery takes on a new threat that threatens the safety of civilization across the galaxy.
The stakes keep escalating season by season with Star Trek: Discovery. First it was an unstable Klingon empire, breaches from an alternate universe, a rogue A.I. system called Control which had the potential to destroy all existence, and a phenomenon known as “The Burn” which destroyed nearly everything capable of generating a warp field, collapsing interstellar civilization.
This time the stakes are higher still, and the Discovery is right at the center of all of it. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must all come together to take on and nullify the new threat.
Starfleet has evolved considerably in the last few centuries. During a command conference, we see representatives of a number of races with which we are already familiar — including a Vulcan, an Orion woman, and even a Ferengi officer.
The official description for the upcoming season reads:
“Season 4 of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all.”
Saru (played by Doug Jones) is back as 1st Officer aboard the Discovery, apparently having fulfilled his duty on his homeworld Kaminar as mentor to the foundling Su’Kal. Other returning castmembers are Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala, Blu del Barrio, Ian Alexander and David Cronenberg.
Alex Kurtzman, Michelle Paradise, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth are executive producers. Paradise serves as the series’ showrunner.
Star Trek: Discovery makes its Season 4 premiere on Paramount+ Nov. 18.
